APOSTLES OF JESUS MISSIONARIES
DID YOU KNOW:
Why are we Called the Apostles of Jesus or AJ in short.
Our Name: Called by our Lord Jesus Christ “to be sent with Him and to be sent to preach to the nations” (Mk. 3:14), we form a religious family named Religious Missionary Institute of the Apostles of Jesus for clergy and laity. Clergy meaning priests, Laity meaning un-ordained members, that is Religious brothers.
Our Charism: Our charism consists of being good shepherds after the example of Jesus. Jesus takes care of the sheep’s welfare, looks for lost ones, bandages the sick and wounded, and protects them from the wolves.
Our Religious Habit: AJs vest in a white cassock, yellow sash, and a crucifix hanging on a yellow ribbon.
The color white symbolizes innocence and the outward sign of our Christian dignity and creates a sense of unity.
Yellow Represents the “wheat plantation” ready for harvest and our allegiance to the Holy See. [In the gospel, Jesus said, “The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few; so, ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)].
The crucifix: Represents the sacrifice we are bound to make for the kingdom of God.
Our Motto: “Missionaries for Africa and the world”. This was picked from Pope Paul VI’s mission trip to Africa in 1969 as he challenged Africa, to be missionaries to themselves.
Our Activities: Working with various Catholic Dioceses in the World, the AJs are engaged in multiple fields of the apostolate: Primary Evangelization, Parish Ministry, Clinical Pastoral Care and Hospital Chaplaincy, Aids & HIV ministry, and Formation of Lay Leaders.
Where we Work: In Africa We are in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Botswana, The Sudan & S. Sudan, and in S. Africa
In Europe, We are in Germany, England, and Italy, we are also in Australia and Papua New Guinea, commonly known as PNG
In America, We are in USA, and Caribbean of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic.
